Gems of our cultural landscape

Numerous small monuments and field monuments in our municipality, such as chapels, wayside shrines, wayside crosses, monuments from trade, agriculture and industry, grain bins, mills, barns with beautiful brick lattice windows, memorials, wells and spring sanctuaries, etc. have been recorded, located and digitised by Ms Monika Gschwandner-Elkins from the Carinthian Education Centre and are accessible to the public on the homepage www.kleindenkmaeler.at.

In contrast to churches, castles and palaces, these often go unnoticed in our beautiful cultural landscape. In a great variety of forms, they remind us of historical events, natural disasters or strokes of fate - they are an expression of deeply rooted popular piety and are valuable local testimonies. They are the cultural history of our country turned into image and stone.
